An excerpt from The Mentally Fit Leader by Dr Julie Rowse

“Build your personal mental fitness”

“Mental health is defined by the WHO as ‘a state of wellbeing in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.’ In the last several years, leaders in many industries have been recognising the cost of stress and focusing more and more on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace through educational programs and access to help – which is great! However, the importance of leaders being supported in their own mental health and wellbeing is a concept that has only recently begun to take hold.”

I would like to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and celebrate their knowledge and continued connection to sea, land, waterways, culture, and community.

I would like to pay my respect to Elders past, present and emerging both here on Wadawurrung Country where I live and to all First Nations peoples and clans across the country.

I would also like to acknowledge my ancestors who went before me and thank my family, friends, clients, colleagues, and mentors who have contributed to my life.

Julie Rowse embraces the importance of inclusion and diversity and supports the LGBTIQA+ community. Julie is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all people including all cultures, religions, disabilities and walks of life.
